Course Description

This course will include example details, case studies, and insights from below-grade foundation wall issues experienced across the industry. Viewers will gain a better understanding of both the current minimum requirements and the industry best practices for building robust and durable below-grade foundation walls.

Who Should Watch?
Custom, single and multi-family builders, and renovators. If you are building in the Lower Mainland, you need to keep up with code changes, and the latest in building science.

Syllabus:
This course will cover the four important aspects of below-grade foundation waterproofing and drainage:

  • Foundation wall waterproofing/dampproofing systems and installation considerations
  • Perimeter and site drainage system installation and maintenance.
  • Backfill best practices
  • Below-grade to above-grade transition details.

James Higgins, Building Science Technologist, RDH Building Science

James Higgins is a Building Science Technologist with RDH Building Science working in the research and new buildings groups. James’ focus at RDH is building enclosure design, forensic investigations, building monitoring, thermal analysis, field review, and testing services. James combines his theoretical expertise with a practical approach to solving complex design and construction problems. His work includes leakage investigations and testing of above- and below-grade assemblies as part of warranty and litigation claims. James also helped develop the forthcoming update to the Building Enclosure Design Guide and the Builders Guide to Site and Foundation Drainage from BC Housing.
