Course Description

This course, NearZero2 to NetZero, will bring together two speakers, one to talk from a builder's perspective on building to NetZero for the first time, and the second on an incentivization program by ZEBx to assist builders and designers on reducing embodied carbon on upcoming projects, including a recently launched incentivization program in the City of Vancouver.

About the Speakers

Chris Wimbles, Operations Manager of Perspective Homes by Pacific, a HAVAN Awards winner who was recently featured HAVAN's Measure Twice Cut Once podcast, will share his experience on how a recent build evolved into his first NetZero home, and the lessons learned along the way.

The second speaker is Caroline Butchart, Program Manager with CLF British Columbia - a Program Area of ZEBx, who will dive into what embodied carbon is, strategies to reduce embodied carbon, and provide a couple of case studies on how builders and designers can move towards lower embodied carbon for their future projects.  She will also talk about ZEBx's NearZero2 research program that incentivizes owners, designers and homebuilders to reduce the embodied carbon footprint of a new home located in the City of Vancouver. Launched in January 2023, this program offers compensation payments that vary between $5k and $40k, depending on how much embodied carbon is reduced relative to a baseline.
